The Korean war was a war between the two communist nations of North Korea and China, and the democratic nation, South Korea. The Korean War began in 1950, lasting until about 1953. Throughout the world at this time the North Koreans, and other communist nations, like China, were trying to spread communism throughout the world. The first group of people that the North Koreans went for were the South Koreans, calling this war the "Korean War". One of the main causes of the Korean war was when the 38th parallel was created, separating both North and South Korea. North Korea was unsuccessful and remains a democratic country. However, the North Koreans were successful with one thing: Harming the lives of thousands of South Koreans.
During the war, the North Koreans captured MANY of the South Koreans, along with any other nation that was helping the South Koreans fight, putting them into camps. These camps were called Prisoner of War, or POW, camps. POW camps are a place where soldiers or combats who are captured during the war are placed. These places are extremely harmful and abusive. Many people don't survive. Some still remain there today and have been held there for a while. Others have escaped, managing to survive and start a new life. These camps are a huge violation of Human Rights.
Human rights are the rights that you have been given because you are human. They are freedoms that you have, or are guaranteed to have, because you are a human being and you deserve them. Every person deserves to live a great life without people being involved in your country, nationality, or community in a harmful and abusive way. These camps are one of the thousands of human rights violations that we have today.
