The Legacy Lives on
Now, i know some of you might ask, "Why does it matter that we learn this?" Well, i believe it is very important to learn about all of the things that go on throughout the world. From this, we can learn to not make the same mistakes North Korea, South Korea, and China did and have history repeat itself by us, the United States, or any other country for that matter. The purpose of the United Nations was to help protect the South Korean powers, not to destroy or defeat the North Koreans and Chinese. It has also taught the United States a lesson: There is only a small number of countries that we can trust when things start to get tough. I believe that it could be one of the reasons that the US didn't use the UN in the Vietnam War or Iraq. The Korean War Memorial is one of the few things that remind us of this war. But, the real question is, "What about the South Koreans?" There are many camps throughout North Korea that still hold many prisoners, but there is no way in knowing where they are hidden and why they are keeping them there. The POW camps are one of the many violations of Human Rights around the world. There are thousands of POW camps in different countries as well, not just from the Korean War. We, the United States, and others around the world need to notice how many people out there are being harmed and try to save them. We can't just forget and pretend that it hasn't happened, because it still goes on today. Just because it may not be happening to you, doesn't mean that we can just forget about them. My heart goes out to all of those that have died in the camps and continue to be imprisoned. Keep fighting. Our world is not right. We need to help make changes. Like Gandhi once said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world"
